Therapeutic counselling for addiction and relationships

You might be feeling anxious, low, or stuck in a pattern you can’t quite shift. Perhaps you’re outwardly coping but inwardly exhausted. Therapy offers a space where you don’t have to manage alone.

About Anna

I became a therapist because my own experience of therapy was life-changing. I know it takes courage to begin, and I aim to offer a steady, thoughtful space where you feel heard and respected.

I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression and all forms of addiction, as well as those who feel held back from living in a fuller, more meaningful way. Together, we can gently explore what may be underneath your current difficulties, whether that’s self-doubt, relationship patterns, past experiences, or the pressure to always appear “fine”.

Training and experience

I gained my Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Integrative) in 2015. I trained on placement at Cranstoun, an addiction agency in London, supporting people in early recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.

I have worked for the past nine years in private practice, at The Awareness Centre and now online. I am an accredited member of the BACP (MBACP Accred), membership number 161797, and work to its Ethical Framework.

I am about to begin a diploma in sex and porn addiction. While I train, I am able to offer a limited number of reduced-fee places for people who would like to work with me in this area.

Who I help

I work with anyone concerned about their use of substances or behaviours to manage difficult feelings, and anyone struggling in their relationships, whether romantic, with family, with friends, or with themselves.

I am a kink friendly therapist, and I work without judgement, whatever your relationships or desires look like.

What love and relationship addiction can look like

These are some of the patterns people describe. You may recognise a few of them, or all of them.

  • Losing sight of yourself in a relationship, or “dissolving” into it
  • Making the other person more important or valuable than you, putting them on a pedestal
  • Choosing unavailable partners
  • Staying too long in relationships that aren’t working, or that are abusive
  • A fear of being alone
  • Hoping for unconditional love
  • Seeking validation and approval
  • Finding it hard to accept the reality of who a partner actually is
  • Neglecting your own needs while in a relationship

If some of this feels familiar, you are not alone, and these patterns can change.

How I work

I work integratively, drawing on humanistic, person-centred and psychodynamic approaches depending on what suits you. Some of our work may focus on the present and your strengths. At other times we might explore how earlier relationships have shaped current patterns. Above all, our work moves at your pace.

What to expect from a first session

A first session is an honest conversation about what is going on for you, what you’re worried about, and what has led you to seek therapy now. It is also a chance to see how it feels to work together, because the right fit matters for therapy to be effective. I’ll ask about your history, family and relationships, and if we decide to continue, we’ll explore these together over the following sessions to build a clearer picture of your patterns and where they might come from.
